"At 40, Half of My Life Is Over..."
If the Average Life Expectancy
for women is 75 & 72 for men,
then turning 40 means that
I am definitely now
in the 2nd half of my life.
& the thought of that has started freaking me out a bit.
I worry about my kids & family...
Work, money, retirement, health - all these things!
But recently I got some encouragement from
some friends & colleagues
LONG past the Big Four Oh...
"Stop Complaining & Try To Enjoy..."
Some said, "Wait till you hit MY age!"
One said "That aint shit! I'm 73!!"
But most gave me great advice
that took away a lot of my anxiety!
"You're gonna look back at this time
& say 'I shoulda been living it up!'..."
"So LIVE IT UP, NOW!!!"
"Enjoy where you are now. Appreciate how far you've come.
And trust the journey",
one person said.
"Your 40s is when you find
YOU again!
Some people don't like
who they find
& some people do."

"Your 40s is like a 'Half-time break'..."
"Some people might feel like
they haven'taccomplished much by their 40s,
like their behind in life
- down 15 points...
And some might feel like
they've made good choices
& are winning by 15 points",
said my male co-worker
who loves sports.
"But the game aint over at 40!
It's just HALFTIME!"
he laughed.
& that's what I keep
reminding myself
when I start freaking out about being in my 40s...
'It's just half-time!...'

And when I think about it,
"I'm UP at halftime!"
* I have 2 smart & beautiful kids
who make me smile
(even though they forget to call)
* I have my consultancy business
I started 6 years ago...
* I started walking last year
- lost 18lbs
& feel in good health
And if I just
"enjoy where I'm at
& how far I've come"
- hopefully there will be more special moments
& accomplishments to come like:
* One day becoming
a grand-parent
(in several years, lol)
* Taking a cruise ship voyage
like I've always wanted to
* Finally paying off
the mortgage on our family home
So now I don't fear
turning 40 so much...
We'll save the next freak-out
for my 50s!
